Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture (TCM) Method

The term “acupuncture” describes a family of procedures involving the stimulation of points on the body using a variety of techniques. Acupuncture theory is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy flow (Qi) through the body that are essential for health. Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease.

Acupuncture needles placed on the specific points on the skin correct imbalances of flow by sending a message to the brain by afferent nerve pathways and the brain sends message back to the body to enhance circulation, energy flow and organ function. The acupuncture technique that has been most often studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles. Practiced in China and other Asian countries for thousands of years, acupuncture is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine.
